What is the difference between a Proxy and VPN Service?

A VPN provides security by encrypting your connection from your PC/device to the VPN Node. A Proxy doesn't provide encryption, therefore unauthorized 3rd parties can easily intercept your communication and access your private data, such as usernames/passwords, websites you visit and emails.
